In what has already been a superb season for Huddersfield members in the HHDUGC Match Play Championships this year, Habib Khan has completed a sensational hat trick for the Club.
Paying in his first JR Crawshaw Memorial Match Play final, Habib was up against the defending Champion, Scot Minto (Hanging Heaton), who was also the winner of the Union Stroke Play Championship this year and was looking to be only the 5th player to win both titles in the same year.
Following a delay because of Habib's involvement in the YUGC Match Play Championship on the original finals weekend, the final took place this last weekend at Dewsbury District Golf Club.
Habib got off to a good start and never looked back, eventually winning by a 9 and 7 margin. The referee for the day recorded that Habib was a couple under par on what was described a difficult day due the deluge on Friday leaving the course sodden.
In the Seniors Match Play Championship final, Frank Greaves involvement in the YUGC Seniors Match Play Championship scuppered play on the original Finals weekend too, and his match against Richard Holt (Woodsome Hall) was played on Wednesday 27th September, also at Dewsbury District Golf Club.
Having beaten the four-time winner of the trophy, Andy Whitworth, in the semi-final, the memory of losing in last years final to him was put behind him and he was determined to go one better.
Having suffered with a shoulder injury for most of the year, Richard was unfortunately not at his best and Frank won the match, 4 and 3, to take his third title of 2023.
The photograph shows Frank receiving the trophy from Richard Hanson, the son of John Hanson and whom the trophy is played in memory of.
As we have already seen Dan Henbest won the Junior Match play title on Sunday 24th September, on the original Finals Day.
