Ladies welcome Ilkley Golf Club to Fixby

Recently the Ladies of Ilkley were warmly welcomed by our Ladies Section to re kindle a long term relationship.  The first match was played at Ilkley in 1897 and on the 85th anniversary in 1982 they were invited to Huddersfield to celebrate the occasion.  Nancy Whitely was Lady Captain and presented them with a white rose.

Somehow this lost favour over time, but after last year's exchange Day, Maria Tempest forged the relationship once more.  Maria gave Ilkley a white rose.  This year Ilkley have played at Huddersfield, all had a wonderful time, lots of chatter and fun and serious golf.  The score was 4:3 to Huddersfield.  The Ilkley Lady Captain responded by giving a pink rose for the Club's garden.  We look forward to the re match next year at Ilkley.

A big thank you to all that took part and to Maria for getting things going again and to Shirley Guest for her historical knowledge.

Well done all

June (LC)
